Choosing to Participate: Facing History and Ourselves is an engaging interactive multimedia exhibition that has won national praise for encouraging people of all ages to consider the consequences of their everyday choices and for inspiring them to make a difference in their schools and communities. The exhibition focuses on four individuals and communities whose stories illustrate the courage, initiative, and compassion that are needed to protect democracy and human rights.
Choosing to Participate premiered at the Boston Public Library in 1998. Since then, the exhibition has visited Chicago, New York, Memphis, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. More than 350,000 people have visited the exhibition, including thousands of school groups.
Choosing to Participate has received significant support from leading corporations, foundations, and community and business leaders in each city it has visited. It has also generated considerable press coverage during the tour including editorials, op-eds, and feature stories in major metropolitan newspapers and electronic media.
